Baby Sleeping Through The Night
I have been feeling like crap today. Last night I got home so late from out of town that all I wanted was to go to sleep. I hadn’t slept that much the prior night either. But my daughter woke up around 2 in the morning I would just not fall back asleep. I think she might of had a nightmare, she was crying like crazy. When I finally got her to calm down she just didn’t want to go back to sleep. She fell asleep until 5 in the morning. I know many of you mothers out there can relate to me here. When my daughter was a baby,I was told about the many ways to soothe her, but what can I do now. I don’t believe those tips would work now, lol…or maybe.
I’m sure we’ve all heard about giving our baby a warm bath, right? Well why not try this. I got the Johnson’s Bedtime Wash, massaging gel and lotion. It gives out an aroma of natural essences that relax your baby. I also used a product from Playtex called Baby Magic Calming Milk Lotion. This is also great for massages and has a lavender and chamomile aroma. These products really worked well for me. Sometimes I would even need to drive my baby around the block and that did the trick. My baby sometimes wakes up to this day when she feels a blanket on top of her, she doesn’t like to be covered up. I guess it makes her feel too hot. I never could swaddle her in a blanket when she was an infant. My daughter slept in her Kolcraft bassinet up until she was about three months old. It has a vibrating feature that my daughter really liked and would put her right to sleep. Whenever I saw she was getting tired and sleepy I would put her down, turn on the vibrating feature, and she would fall asleep. This really helped me so much during night-wakings when she was a newborn.
I was also told by two different grandmothers, to give baby a bottle of warm milk right before bed, and that supposedly helps baby sleep through the night. Never worked for me though. I was also told by them to place a lettuce leaf under a sheet just beneath the baby’s head. I know, weird right! This supposedly also helps to drift into sleep. It also helps children and adults sleep by placing it under a pillow, or so I heard. But probably the best advice I was told, was to rub lavender oil on my baby’s chest and neck, that way the baby smells it throughout the night. This helps the baby be relaxed, and it soothes. I used this method when my daughter turned 3 months old, and she started to sleep through the night since then.
